ICGEE Curriculum
Our prime objective is to develop a National Graduate Education Programme in Micro- & Nano-Engineering that will enhance the quality of graduate education across Ireland by establishing a scaleable model for collaborative delivery of high quality modules by leading academics in their respective fields. The rational for creating a national programme is that a single academic institution would not have the critical resources or critical mass to sustain such an education that meets our objectives. As such, the programme relies on resource sharing between the national and international academic partners to deliver a graduate training programme that meets the highest international standards.
We offer a very wide spectrum of specialist academic courses and workshops from leading experts in Europe, the US and Asia. We believe that in the future, an international peer network will be a key differentiator for future engineering leaders. ICGEE believes that the majority of our engineering students will graduate with an international research experience and a global engineering perspective. A key feature will therefore be ICGEE student participation in international summer schools, workshops, industry internships and research collaborations within and external to the international ICGEE consortium member networks.
Reflecting the fact that in the future, the majority of engineering graduates may move into non-academic career paths in different innovation eco-systems, the ICGEE has introduced transferable professional skills modules on technology management, commercialisation and innovation for our doctoral students along with communications, ethics and cultural issues in business.
The ICGEE doctoral programme has three distinct features based around the core components of an international PhD:
- World-class research experience including national and/or international collaboration or industry internships.
- Specialist academic training by leading experts in their fields
- Transferable and Professional skills training in Business, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
